Multi-ply is a brand new yarn retailer for the Yorkshire Coast and beyond. Our bricks-and-mortar shop opened in Scarborough on 5th December 2008.

Our stock includes Sirdar, King Cole, Rico Design, Artesano, and UK Alpaca yarns, Injabulo buttons, haberdashery from King Cole and Clover, Brittany needles and lots of other goodies.
Multi-ply is owned and run by Helen Williams, an experienced knitter with a family background in textiles. Her aim is to create something like the American LYS (Local Yarn Store) with friendly service which goes beyond the mere sale of wool.
- Bring your knitting problems and we will do our best to help you solve them.
- Come to classes on learning to knit and intermediate and advanced techniques. Children's classes will also be available.
- Advertise your charity knitting/crocheting projects with us.
- Come to one of our knit and natter sessions.
Wherever possible we are trying to stock British and fairly-traded products and support Yorkshire-based companies. We are trying to be environmentally responsible retailers from using as little packaging as possible, recycling when we can and even drinking fair trade tea!
Multi-ply is very much a family affair. Whilst it is Helen's business and most of the time she will be dealing with orders and enquiries, she is helped in the shop by her mum, Barbara, a weaver, tassel maker and lifelong knitter. Helen's husband, George, does the fancy bits on the online shop, designs the publicity material and is gradually coming to understand this new language called knitting. Son Andrew (10) is a whizz with the pricing gun and enjoys helping out with stock checks, orders and anything which involves money or counting. Kirsty (5) likes to help with tidying up and Alistair (12) just likes to keep out of the way!
