Manos Del Uruguay was founded in 1968 by a group of women trying to find ways to promote economic and social development in Uruguay's rural areas.

The craftswomens are the owners of Manos and have set up a non-profit organisation with the objective of generating employment for rural women, allowing them to stay in their home towns, earn their living and develop their communities.
